The latest complete issue of Genetic Resources (Vol. 7, Issue 13) is now available, bringing together 16 open-access articles from researchers across four continents.

The issue covers a wide thematic range. On the livestock side, studies examine phenotypic and genetic diversity in indigenous chicken breeds from Ethiopia and Iran, native goats across agroecological zones in southeastern Ethiopia, and Nordic horse breeds characterized using updated reference genomes. A multidisciplinary framework for adding value to the indigenous cattle breed of Cyprus rounds out the animal genetic resources contributions.

Several articles in this issue focus on the genetic diversity of ex situ collections, spanning a wide range of crops and countries. Studies characterize germplasm of Crotalaria sp. in Brazil, tarwi (Lupinus mutabilis) in Peru, castor bean in the USA, chickpeas and roses in Ukraine, and cucumber in Nepal.

The issue also includes contributions on the morphological and phenotypic characterization of wild, underutilized, and landrace material. These cover Pseudocedrela kotschyi in Benin, chilli pepper (Capsicum spp.) in Oaxaca, Mexico, and rice landraces in Iran.

Lastly, a comprehensive review examines approaches to the genetic improvement of foxtail millet (Setaria italica).

On the policy and systems side, a paper on Nepal's local crop variety registration system offers a perspective on how national frameworks for farmers' varieties have evolved and where they might go next.
