The establishment of the European Triticale Database (ETDB) at the Federal Research Station for Plant Production (RAC), Nyon, Switzerland, was decided during the ECP/GR Wheat Genetic Resources Workshop held in Paris in 1996. Data are being collected from 17 institutes in 15 different countries. These institutes conserve a total of 11912 accessions, of which 9502 are available for distribution. It is estimated that 87 % of the accessions are hexaploids, 6% octoploids and 7% are still to be defined. Five tetraploid accessions are also conserved. The database is estimated to become available for consultation and on - line accessible in the beginning of 1999.
