Timothy grass (Phleum pratense L.) is a perennial grass in the family Poaceae. It is commonly grown for cattle feed and for hay. As hay it is important for horses as well as smaller domestic pets such as rabbits. It is a very robust grass, can be seen in pastures all year round, and is native to most of Europe. It is a popular crop for animal feed as it can be harvested several times a year if planted in early spring. Many caterpillars use timothy as a food crop, and it has an important role in its ecosystem.
