EVA Legumes Project meetings

EVA Legumes Project meeting, 26-27 November 2025, Athens, Greece

On 26-27 November 2025, partners of the EVA Legumes Network met in Athens for a meeting within the EVA Boost project, hosted by the Agricultural University of Athens. The participants shared updates on project activities in 2025, reporting progress in all seven legume crops the project works on. In addition to evaluation trials in common bean and chickpeas conducted in various locations across Europe, regeneration activities provided material for future evaluations also in lentil, lupin, pea, faba bean and cowpea. A good part of the meeting was dedicated to discussions on work planning for the remaining two years of the EVA Boost project. Experimental plans for the different crops were defined, balancing phenotyping for agronomic characteristics in multi-location field trials with experiments investigating nutritional composition and resilience to priority diseases and abiotic stresses such as drought. The EVA Legumes network brings together partners with a common interest and different expertise to promote knowledge exchange and enrich European legumes collections, making them available to breeders. Learning more about the genetic and phenotypic diversity of these important protein crops will provide breeders and researchers with the tools to develop varieties suited for the manifold challenges facing European agriculture. The EVA Boost project is financially supported by the German Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Regional Identity.
